Born and raised in Monaco, Sophia started dancing when she joined Marika Besobrasova’s school of dance at the tender age of 3.

 

At barely 10 years of age, she made her first professional appearance in Roland Petit’s adaptation of Nut Cracker and at the sides of Noëlla Pontois.

Soon after, she began her professional training at the classical dance academy Princesse Grâce, from which she graduated at the level of “Excellence” in 1984, all the while dancing with the Russian Ballets of Monte-Carlo.

 

From 1977 to 1984, Sophia would have already danced with the likes of Roland Petit, Rudolf Noureyev, Ben de Rochemont, Eliane Mazzoti, Yoko Morishita, Claude Bessy, Eva Evdokimova, and Alex Ursuliak.

 

The following year, she was awarded a state-signed diploma recognizing her as a professor at the Rosella Hightower International Dance Centre. All of this with first class honours.

 

From 1985 to 1989, she became the first instructor and director Del Estudio de Danza Profesional de Maria de Avila (director of Spain’s National Ballet) de Zaragoza. Among her students, a generous handful distinguished themselves internationally, such as Amaya Iglesias (1st place Eurovision young dancers), Arantxa Arguelles (gold medal at the Concours de La Ville de Paris).

 

In 1990, the Monaco-bred dancer opened her own school in Madrid, where she began curating her own ballets:

• B.S.O

 

Seeing as the body is the main instrument of the practice, she pursued an interest in Pilates, ultimately completing an instructor’s course specialised in and dedicated to dancers and musicians.

 

Sophia settled in Singapore in 2016, and started offering classical dance lessons as soon as 2017. It wasn’t long before she felt a strong desire to open her own studio in the heart of the city. In fact, since 2019, she has welcomed a plethora of students of all ages and experiences to her school in Serangoon.

 

In 2016, her name was included among Monaco’s World Leading Women.
